We had a stay-cation at Festive Hotel, RWS Singapore recently. The kids were thrilled just hearing about a stay-cation and my mother-in-law started packing the bag days before the stay. I got the kids to pick their own clothes and toys and books they want to bring along for the trip and they were really helpful! I even had to stop them from overpacking the toys and keep those bulky toys like balls. No space for that in the small luggage! Never felt packing was this easy before!
Staying on the Singapore main island, making a trip across the sea to Sentosa really brings in the holiday mood. There’s a lot of activities for kids on Sentosa itself during the day. During the night, they would have to sleep early, as there’s nothing much for them by then.
We love the Festive Hotel Family suite although it’s a little far away from the must-go hard rock hotel beach pool. There’a King-sized bed, a loft bed and a sofa bed! Enough for the whole family.
The beach villa room was cool for the kids but the room was a little small with only 1 King-sized bed and it sure is expensive for a weekend stay-cation!
The place to go while you are at RWS has got to be the Universal Studios. It usually hot and humid in Singapore, so come prepared for the weather.
Our kids are too young for most of the rides, but they do love the Sesame Street segment so we came mainly for them. Other than that, there are also a few kiddy rides that our kids can/dare to venture on
We came here a few times but only this time round, Nic dared to venture on the carousel. It’s not that scary after all! She didn’t want the individual rides so we took this no-surprises family carriage and went on 3 rounds on it.
Treasure Hunter (Be prepared for long queuing hours)
We tried to take this ride as the queue was not as long as usual. But still took us about 1 hour of wait. The little one was tired and cranky halfway through and we left the diaper bag in the stroller outside the ride. The queue was starting to build up so I had no choice but to squeeze through the queue, climb over a fence and get that milk to stop her crankiness and squeeze through the same way back. Feels like a wierdo doing that but, there’s not much choice.
And so there she goes enjoying her milk while the Daddy meditates with aching arms hoping she’ll just finish it off fast. But that didn’t really happen. She fell asleep before finishing the milk and the Daddy has to carry her like this for another half hour or more! Mega sweat. I took over in the last 15minutes as hubby’s arms are really sore by then
Finally got on the ride, but was not allowed to carry. Must be seated on the ride with safety belt on. The ride was not that exciting after all, why all the precautions? So poor Nat had to sleep in this position through the ride.
Sesame Street show
The main purpose of us coming here is to watch the sesame street show. It’s a really lively performance by the favourite characters of Sesame Street with lots of songs and dance. The kids had a good time grooving to the music
After that comes the exciting photo taking time. There’s the kids waiting eagerly for Elmo to do a high-five with them.
You would also need to rush for the queue for photo taking as the characters wont’t stay long outside so you might just miss the chance
It could be a girl thing but my girls really love a hand painting anytime. Flowers, sparkles, princesses, butterflies… welcome anytime. This station is located just outside the Chinese restaurant and cost about 10 – 30 SGD.
Hard Rock Beach Pool
The attraction that you can’t miss while staying at RWS must be this beach pool. We would aim to reach here as soon as they open, to beat the heat. But it’s really hard to get the kids to go once they are here. So we could stay here all the way till lunch and get really tanned.
Nowadays Nic would sometimes request to go to ‘swimming pool with sand’. We know she’s referring to this beach pool so we are quite certain they had lots of fun and fond memories here. Maybe we should go to the beach instead. It’s almost exactly the same. 🙂
